Lenten Poetry Workshop

  • Grace Church | Red Hill 3121 Red Hill Depot Road North Garden, VA, 22959 United States (map)

On Saturday, March 7, 9:30am - noon at Grace Church | Red Hill, Joanna Currey will lead a Lenten poetry workshop centered on this year's theme for Lent: The Flesh Too Vulnerable, inspired by the Muriel Rukeyeser poem, "Who In One Lifetime."

If the idea of writing poetry makes you nervous, don’t worry! Joanna will lead the group through a series of prompts and exercises that anyone can participate in. Please bring a notebook and something to write with.

This event is geared toward adults with any level of writing experience, from the seasoned writer to the poetry-curious, with no obligation to share what you write. It's also free and open to the public, so invite your friends!

Joanna Currey is from Virginia. She studied English, Poetry Writing, and Religious Studies at the University of Virginia, and received her MFA in Poetry Writing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She works in ecological restoration with a focus on the native grasslands of the Piedmont region of Virginia, and is usually thinking about the next recipe she wants to cook.
